The Arc Armchair draws its inspiration from modern architectural principles and thoughtful space design. It is an exploration of how to compose structures that are not over-decorated, forming a new pattern that is both elegant and enchanting. The armchair is a testament to the designer's ability to transform inspiration into tangible form.
What sets the Arc Armchair apart from other furniture pieces is its unique construction. Made out of solid wood using traditional joinery techniques, the armchair employs triangular structures on its sides for stability without compromising comfort. Lamination technology has been applied to the bending parts, showcasing the designer's innovative use of materials and techniques.
The armchair was crafted using maple wood, joint, and laminate bending, a testament to the designer's meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality. The technical specifications of the armchair are as follows: Width 61mm x Depth 61mm x Height 77mm. Despite its compact size, the armchair exudes a strong presence, making it a perfect addition to any space.
The Arc Armchair project commenced in 2015 in Rochester and was completed in 2018 in Palo Alto. Throughout this period, Hung Yuan Chang faced and overcame various structural challenges and woodcrafting techniques. The armchair's unique structural placement posed a significant challenge, particularly its wider front side that narrows towards the rear. The structure of the two sides is not vertical, and the frames connect on a curve, forming a compound angle. This design choice results in a welcoming shape by extending the two arms.
The Arc Armchair's innovative design and exceptional craftsmanship have not gone unnoticed. In 2019, it was awarded the Silver A' Furniture Design Award, a prestigious accolade given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. This award is a testament to the armchair's strong technical characteristics, splendid artistic skill, and the positive feelings it evokes.
In conclusion, the Arc Armchair is more than just a piece of furniture. It is a symbol of the fusion of modern architecture and traditional craftsmanship, a testament to the designer's innovative spirit and meticulous attention to detail. It is a piece that commands attention, not just for its aesthetic appeal, but also for the story it tells and the inspiration it provides.
